Loyal Horseplayers

An important note to the loyal horseplayers who have been with me throughout the past year. Anyone who would like weekend or daily selections at tracks around the country can contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it any day.

Quality and the access to a winning strategy is based on the daily races offered. If the card appears to be dominated by short fields and favorites, I believe in passing rather than selecting favorites that will in the long run be non-beneficial. If this was "nonsense" I would simply put selections out no matter what (which 99.9 % are) and I would not be on this show because if I don't play the selections myself the entire process would be a scam!

Be sure to look to see if selections are up. Today was a huge day with the last 2 races at Santa Anita as winners in exacta, daily double, and trifecta returning a major profit.

Thanks, KD

Confidence & Odds Are The Key

Good morning.

Father's Day for some of our listeners was a huge financial success! As always, I appreciate the emails expressing your thoughts on the good fortune experienced in the Pick 4 at Belmont on Sunday. The $2 Pick 4 returned $2700. Skips Prospect in the 10th race, the day's best bet, returned $17.60 to Win.

Our listeners believe and know that only an honest, value oriented attitude can bring success. There are no sure things as we hear from many different sources. Those who love this horse, sound like the stockbroker who loves his or her pick of the day, only for their clients to learn the hard way that love should not be the verb that is listened to when it comes to proper business. I think most of our listeners are beginning to understand that confidence and odds, not love, are the determining factors.

Betting Strategies

I want to thank all the handicappers and listeners of The Race and Sports Radio Show (www.wsradio.com Saturday and Sunday 8am-10am Pacific time) that have e-mailed in the past months.

Some of you have asked about consulting services available for the summer racing season. Please email me at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and a reply will be forthcoming shortly.

The turf season is an opportunity to find winners that at times are not available to many handicappers. Specifically, I am referring to horses whose turf races are no longer posted in the Racing Form past performances. However, all of their past turf races are available (their entire lifetime history) on the Ragozin Sheets, and this is a huge advantage and opportunity to play with confidence on certain horses at literally any price. One such race took place last week at Delaware Park. The back turf numbers clearly indicated that this horses' ability on the turf was capable of a winning effort and his morning line was 20-1. His past ten dirt races were abysmal. However, his buried turf numbers were scary. The public dismissed this horse, not at 20-1 or 30-1, but as he was vying for the lead down the stretch, 99-1 was posted on the TV. This was not going to be the day. In an excruciating final 100 yards he eventually ran 4th beaten a length or two. Had he not had the #14 post-and lost so much ground, he would have been in the winner's circle.

The truth is that at times it is possible to be wagering on long-long price horses based upon concrete information. However, you must have the mentality to go to the betting window and be able to do what many would consider unthinkable, and that is make a real bet on a horse at any price, and let the race unfold. Remember consistency and betting strategy is the key. A 2nd, 3rd, or sometimes a 4th place finish can still provide a huge score.

(If interested in seeing the chart of this race, e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .)

It could be time to expand our handicapping and betting strategies that give us the edge that is necessary to be successful.

Saturday Recap

Congrats to those who confidently backed Shackelford yesterday. It was clear that the #4 and #5 (Shackelford) would test each other. But, most would then conclude that eventually the survivor of this early battle would fail to sustain a winning effort. Most of the field ran the weakest race of their three year old campaign which indicates the physical toll that has taken place to this group, and I believe many of these horses may show little significant improvement in the future. We shall see.

There are no picks for Sunday. However, in the 2nd at Golden Gate the #1 (Bonnet's Caydence) is an interesting horse at 10-1. Her only race on the turf should not interest most handicappers which means her odds should remain close to double digits. Must save with an exacta with the #3 and #6 on top. Good Luck!
